Wild Side West
A Historic Neighborhood Institution & Queer Refuge
Wild Side West is more than just a bar; it is a cornerstone of San Francisco’s LGBTQ+ history and a beloved Bernal Heights staple. Founded in 1962 by Pat Ramseyer and Nancy White, it remains one of the few continuously lesbian-owned and operated spaces in the country. Known for its “defiant magic,” the bar famously turned harassment into art when the owners transformed broken toilets thrown through their windows into a whimsical, sculpture-filled garden.
