Old River Design Company is a San Francisco-based maker studio specializing in hand-crafted accessories, home goods, and Japanese textiles. Inspired by traditional craftsmanship, such as Japanese sashiko, furoshiki, and classic American quilting, the studio blends heritage techniques with modern design. Guided by core principles of quality, community, sustainability, and continuous improvement (kaizen), the business also emphasizes zero-waste practices by repurposing textile off-cuts and remnant fabrics into functional everyday items.

• Handmade Accessories: Komubukuro bags (Japanese knot bags), the signature zero-waste Zippy Pouch collection, key fob wristlets, cup carriers, and stickers.
• Home Goods: Dish towels and storage baskets.
• Japanese Fabrics & Sewing Supplies: Cotton yardage, fabric bundles, wagashi mini bundles, sewing patterns, notions, batting, and interfacing.
• Sashiko: Hanafukin stitching kits and dedicated sashiko supplies.

Old River Design Co. is all about bringing a touch of the handmade into your life. We are inspired by traditional Japanese crafts such as sashiko and furoshiki, as well as traditional American crafts such as quilting. Then, we put a modern spin on it. The result is beautiful items that will fit seamlessly into your home. Many of the textiles we use are vintage fabrics curated from private collections; thus, many of our items are available in limited quantities.

Items are designed and made at Katie’s studio in San Francisco, CA. Whenever possible, we source recyclable and reusable packaging for our shipping and products.
