Founded in 1978, the Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to preserving the ethnic, cultural, and economic diversity of Bernal Heights and the surrounding neighborhoods. BHNC serves as a multi-service hub, providing vital resources for low- and moderate-income residents, seniors, and youth.
Core Programs & Services
Affordable Housing: BHNC develops and manages affordable housing units throughout San Francisco, focusing on stability for families, seniors, and individuals with special needs.
Senior Services: Provides health and wellness programs, social activities, and food security resources (including food pantries) for adults aged 60+ and people with disabilities.
Youth & Adult Employment: Offers career exploration, resume preparation, and job search support. BHNC also partners with the Mayor’s Youth Education and Employment Program (MYEEP).
Community Organizing: Empowers residents to advocate for neighborhood improvements, safety, and equitable access to city resources.
Service Connection: Helps neighbors navigate complex systems like Social Security, health insurance, and transportation.
